Our team uses Aria glasses and tools in our own research, enabling us to produce high quality open datasets, tools and research outcomes that progress the state of computer vision, scene understanding and contextual AI.
Project Aria began as a moonshoot effort to build the worlds' first-ever research glasses, designed to accelerate research for AR and AI.
Project Aria is a research program from Meta Reality Labs Research that helps researchers understand the technical and non-technical challenges for building AR and AI devices.
Aria glasses fulfill a need in the research community for a wearable, always-on form factor capable of capturing a users context with an advanced sensor suite. Before Project Aria, there was a significant and costly gap to build, or modify existing sensor stacks to meet that need. Breakthroughs and innovations that pre-empt products like Meta’s Orion were made possible by our first generation glasses released in 2020.

Photorealistic Reconstruction
Our novel scene reconstruction method aims to solve the limitations of reconstructing high-quality scenes from wearable egocentric devices. We demonstrate a solution using visual-inertial bundle adjustment (VIBA) and incorporating a physical image formation model based on Gaussian Splatting.
